Coca-Cola Junior Rangers
A love for adventure, fun and nature: this is what the Coca-Cola junior rangers have in common. In the summer of 2010, young people aged 13 to 15 years trained to become junior rangers in the Hohe Tauern National Park for the eighth time already.
Young people from the Austrian provinces of Carinthia, Tyrol and Salzburg spent two weeks in the Hohe Tauern National Park. During the first week, they acquired basic knowledge about the flora and fauna of Austria’s largest national park. In the second week, the Coca-Cola junior rangers supported “real” national park rangers in their activities.
The tasks of Coca-Cola junior rangers are varied and cover a broad spectrum, from watching wildlife and learning about plants to analyzing gemstones. Of course, adventures are also a big part of the two weeks as a junior ranger. Spending the night outdoors, eventful hikes and many other interesting activities make up a fun-filled program. The purpose is to teach young people the importance of caring for nature and the environment. So far, as many as 128 teenagers have been trained as Coca-Cola junior rangers.
The partnership between the Hohe Tauern National Park and Coca-Cola Hellenic Austria was established as early as 2003. Many trained junior rangers return to the Hohe Tauern National Park even years after having participated in the program to help train new junior rangers and support national park rangers in their daily tasks. Some of the former Coca-Cola junior rangers even work independently at information points throughout the Hohe Tauern National Park.
